Central Memorial High School has a strong and vibrant arts community.  More than one-third of Central’s students are actively involved in our wide variety of arts classes and programs.  Regardless of previous experience, if you love the arts, Central is the place to be.

Our variety of General Fine Arts courses provide students the opportunity to explore a variety of Fine and Performing Arts classes taught by PVA teachers.  Central’s General Arts program is a great fit for students who have a curiosity about or interest in the arts and want the flexibility to explore a variety of other complimentary courses while in high school. With strong teachers and excellent facilities, Central’s General Fine Arts Programs are great options to consider.

If you have questions about our Fine & Performing Arts classes or our PVA Program, please email our Learning Leader, Michelle Crimmins: MLcrimmins@cbe.ab.ca

2024-2025 Specialized PVA Program

If you have a dedicated passion for the arts and think you may want to pursue a career as an artist, consider applying and auditioning for Central’s Performing and Visual Arts program.  This program of choice offers students from across the Calgary region the opportunity to study at an advanced level at Central Memorial High School because it requires focus and commitment throughout the school year over three years. It provides 90-minutes+ of arts instruction every day over both semesters.

Through PVA programming, students apply, audition/interview and then major in one of the following artistic disciplines throughout their 3 years of high school:

  • Dance
  • Visual Arts
  • Theatre Arts
  • Fashion Design & Illustration
  • Media Arts: Photography, Videography, & Animation
  • Technical Theatre
  • Music
    • Strings
    • Band
    • Vocal

PVA prides itself on offering outstanding instruction, programming and performance opportunities. Studying in this program provides a strong foundation of arts education so that students can easily transition into post-secondary studies or professional work within the arts community after high school.

PVA applications will be available on the main page of the Performing & Visual Arts section of this website:

Students who are not designated to Central will need to ensure they apply and audition/interview prior to completing the CBE High School Transfer Request (closes mid-March each year).
