Good Evening CMHS Parents, Caregivers, Students and Guardians,

Well, we made it through another amazing year at Central Memorial High School.

As I reflect on the past ten months, I am filled with gratitude for our incredible students, dedicated staff, and supportive families who make our school such a special place to learn and grow. Together, we have celebrated achievements, overcome challenges, created lasting memories, and continued to build a school community where students are encouraged to discover their passions and reach their potential.

To our graduating class, congratulations! We are incredibly proud of everything you have accomplished during your time at Central. We are excited to see where life takes you and look forward to watching you make a positive impact as contributing global citizens. Wherever your journey leads, know that you will always be part of the Central community.

To our current Grade 10 and 11 students, enjoy a well-deserved summer break. We can't wait to welcome you back in September as you continue your high school journey. And to our incoming Grade 9 students and their families, welcome! We are excited for you to become part of the Central Memorial High School community. An exciting chapter awaits.

As we move into June, many of us are beginning to look ahead to summer and a slower pace of life. The school year has come to an end for students and soon for staff. Holidays are on the horizon, and we can finally imagine having time to read something that isn't another report, email, or task on a deadline.

A big reader myself, summer has always been one of the best times to rediscover the joy of reading. Whether you find yourself relaxing on a deck, traveling, camping, sitting by a lake, or simply enjoying a quiet morning, a good book has a way of helping us recharge, reflect, and grow.

As always, variety is the name of the game. There are incredible novels to lose yourself in, memoirs that shift your perspective, science and history books that spark curiosity, comedies that make you laugh, and thought-provoking reads that may change how you think about conversations, constraints, leadership, technology, or even your relationship with your phone.

Whether you are after a novel to escape into, a memoir that broadens your understanding of the world, or something practical that you can put to work immediately, summer is the perfect time to expand your reading repertoire. Reading remains one of the simplest and most rewarding ways to learn, reflect, and invest in ourselves.

As for me, this summer I have the opportunity to head to Finland for a few weeks to visit family. My aunt, who is approaching her 90th birthday, recently reached out and asked, "When are we going to see you?" That simple question made me realize it was time to book the trip.

It promises to be a whirlwind adventure. I have cousins scattered across the country, so I'll likely be passed from one family member to the next. By the time I get home, I may need a vacation from my vacation! I am especially grateful for this opportunity because the last time I visited Finland was in 2014, when I was able to take my mom back to the place where she was born and raised for what would become her final visit home. Returning brings with it many special memories, and I am looking forward to reconnecting with family and creating new ones.

Wherever your summer takes you, I hope it includes time to rest, reconnect with family and friends, enjoy the outdoors, and perhaps discover a book that challenges your thinking, sparks your imagination, or simply brings you joy.

Thank you for another wonderful year. Have a safe, relaxing, and memorable summer. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in the fall, refreshed and ready for another incredible year at Central Memorial High School.

Sincerely,

Anne Kromm
Principal
