The Ram Reminder | October 12 - 16, 2026
As we head into the Thanksgiving long weekend, it is an opportunity to pause, reflect, and appreciate the many good things in our lives. In the busyness of our daily routines, it can be easy to focus on what we still need or what we hope to achieve next, rather than recognizing what we already have. Thanksgiving reminds us of the importance of gratitude and of taking time to acknowledge the people, opportunities, and experiences that make our lives richer and more meaningful.
We are fortunate to call Canada home. We enjoy an exceptional quality of life, the stability of our communities, the beauty of our vast natural landscapes, and the richness that comes from living in a diverse, multicultural country. We can take pride in our traditions of peace, compassion, and community support, while recognizing that building a strong and inclusive country is ongoing work. The strength of Canada lies not only in its landscapes and opportunities, but also in the people who care for one another and contribute to the well-being of their communities.
At Central Memorial High School, we have much to be thankful for. We are fortunate to be part of a robust, committed, and caring school community built on relationships that are both meaningful and resilient. As educators, we seek to bring people together to create experiences that are enriching, satisfying, and purposeful. We know that community building and a sense of belonging are essential to student success. Although building community can sometimes look simple or even mundane, a welcoming conversation, a shared laugh, an encouraging word, or taking the time to notice when someone needs support can have a profound and lasting impact.
One of the many strengths of CMHS is the depth and diversity of our complementary courses and programs. These opportunities allow students to discover and pursue their passions, develop their talents, and find their people. Whether through the arts, athletics, career and technology studies, or other areas of interest, students can build friendships and find a sense of belonging among peers who share their enthusiasm. These connections help students recognize that they are valued, that they have something important to contribute, and that they do not have to navigate life's challenges alone.
Research consistently reinforces what we see in our school community every day: our relationships matter. Strong social connections contribute to our physical and mental health, happiness, and overall well-being. It is not simply the number of relationships we have, but the quality of those relationships that makes a difference. Feeling seen, heard, accepted, and supported is fundamental to our sense of belonging. In a world that can sometimes place considerable emphasis on achievement and material success, it is worth remembering that some of the most valuable things in life cannot be purchased. They are found in our connections with one another, in the time we give, and in the care we show.
This Thanksgiving, we are especially grateful for the students, families, staff, and community partners who make Central Memorial such a special place. Thank you for the relationships you nurture, the encouragement you offer, and the many ways you contribute to a community where young people can learn, grow, and thrive. Together, we continue to create a place where relationships serve, support, and help heal, and where every individual has the opportunity to experience the power of belonging.
On behalf of the Central Memorial High School team, I wish you and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend. May you find time to slow down, connect with the people who matter most, enjoy the beauty around you, and recognize the many good things in your lives.
Happy Thanksgiving Rams!
Anne Kromm, Principal
