Good Evening CMHS Parents, Caregivers, Students and Guardians,

As we move toward the end of the school year, this is an exciting time for students. Warmer weather, celebrations, and traditions often bring opportunities for fun and connection. At the same time, it is important that everyone continues to make thoughtful and responsible choices that keep our school community, and the broader public, safe. We have become aware of students organizing games involving water guns. While we understand the intention may be harmless fun, there are important safety expectations that must be understood.

1. No Water Guns at School or During School

Water guns of any kind are not permitted in the school or anywhere on school grounds or during the school day. This includes before school, during lunch, after school, and at any school-related activity or event. Bringing water guns to school creates safety concerns and can cause unnecessary alarm for students, staff, and community members.

2. Students Should Avoid Using Replica Weapons (Gel Blasters/Water Filled Projectiles) At All Times

Many modern “water guns” and gel blasters closely resemble real firearms.

If a member of the public believes they are seeing a weapon, they will call emergency services. Police are required to treat every reported “gun” call as a legitimate threat until proven otherwise. Situations like this can escalate quickly and create serious risk for everyone involved. In addition, students and parents need to understand that water-filled projectiles are dangerous and can cause serious injury.

Our Shared Responsibility

Good decisions help ensure that everyone finishes the school year safely and positively. We ask students to think carefully about how their actions may be perceived by others and to prioritize safety, respect, and good judgment in the community. We are ambassadors for our school community and the CBE and we want to be good neighbours.

Let’s work together to make the end of the school year memorable for the right reasons. Thank you for your cooperation and continued commitment to keeping our schools safe.

Anne Kromm Principal
