The Ram Reminder - March 2 - 6, 2026

Good Evening CMHS Parents, Caregivers, Students and Guardians,

Whenever I am asked what I am most thankful for, my answer is always the same: my education. I feel incredibly fortunate to have been raised and educated within the Calgary Board of Education school system. As a second-generation CBE graduate (following in the footsteps of my father, who graduated from Crescent Heights High School in 1942, and alongside my siblings in 1983 and 1992, with my own graduation in 1986). I have seen firsthand the lasting impact of a strong public education.

Education has shaped the trajectory of my entire family. My father had a successful career in oil and gas. One of my siblings is a teacher specialist with the Medicine Hat Public School Division, supporting early learning and overseeing learner supports and services. My other sibling is a doctor and the Assistant Scientific Director for the Maternal, Newborn, Child & Youth Strategic Clinical Network at Alberta Health Services and works closely with the University of Calgary in Community Health Sciences, specializing in health systems, patient engagement, and perinatal health indicators.

The next generation continues this legacy. Both of my nephews graduated from Western Canada High School (2005 and 2010). One is now a Principal Software Development Engineer with Microsoft, working on Azure SQL and databases, and the other serves as an Addictions Counsellor in Northern Alberta. Two of my grandnephews are currently thriving in a CBE elementary school.

My family can genuinely attest to the strong foundation provided by the CBE and the depth of supports available to students. As the largest school board in Western Canada, educating one in six students in Alberta, the CBE plays a vital role in shaping our province’s future. Now in Year 2 of the CBE Education Plan (2024–2027), the focus remains clear: student success is at the center of every decision. The plan affirms that every student, regardless of background, identity, or personal circumstances, deserves the opportunity to succeed both personally and academically. Achieving this requires commitment, collaboration, and a shared vision across students, staff, families, and community partners.

As the CBE continues gathering feedback to refine the Education Plan, I would like to thank the parents who participated in the recent School Council engagement process. Your perspectives on school planning (including our School Development Plan (SDP), budget, and fees) are invaluable. System leaders review our SDP results to identify both strengths and areas for growth, ensuring we continue striving for excellence.

At Central Memorial High School, we remain deeply committed to supporting every student in realizing their full potential. It is both a responsibility and a privilege to contribute to a system that has given so much to my own family and continues to positively shape the lives of so many others.

Enjoy your weekend.
