Alberta Education and Childcare announced that all diploma exams scheduled between Oct. 27 and Nov. 7, 2025 will be optional due to the ongoing labour action. The optional exams apply to both students currently enrolled in a diploma course and those registered to rewrite an exam.
We are asking all students to let us know their intentions regarding the November exams so that we can make appropriate arrangements. Please fill out the following November Diploma Exam Intentions Survey by Friday, Oct. 24 at noon.
General Information
- Students who are currently enrolled in a diploma course, registered for November diploma exams, and have a school-awarded mark for the current term in that course will be exempt automatically without needing to apply.
- Students who are rewriting a diploma examination or writing a diploma exam due to a deferral from a previous diploma course are NOT eligible for an exemption.
- Please see the General Information Factsheet with specific examples of reasons why a student may be registered to write a diploma examination during the November sitting. Each example has as explanation of what it would mean to either choose not to write or continue to write the diploma exams.
Exam Format, Dates, and Location
- Exams dates remain unchanged, however all exams will be written in digital-only format – no paper copies will be provided.
- At this time, Calgary Board of Education is looking at a single location to administer all November diploma exams to reduce pressures on schools and families.
