Dear Parents, Guardians, Caregivers, and Students
We are embarking on one of my favorite times of the school year: the start of our PVA (Performing and Visual Arts) performances. This past week, I had the privilege of attending the opening night of our Theatre Arts Fall Play, Wedgie. I brought my nephew along, and he was absolutely captivated, calling the production outstanding. It was a proud moment to share the incredible talent at Central Memorial with him, especially knowing his two sons—my grandnephews—will one day walk these halls as students. The performance was excellent, filled with humour and heart, and showcased the hard work and creativity of our students and staff.
Another highlight of the week was witnessing a workshop led by the Katrina String Quartet from Juilliard with our strings program. The precision and insight these world-class musicians brought to our students were truly remarkable. Their ability to identify subtle nuances and provide guidance was a masterclass in itself, and it underscored the incredible opportunities our students have here.
I am continually amazed by the passion and expertise of our PVA teachers. They inspire students to explore, create, and refine their artistic talents while fostering critical skills that transcend the arts. Arts education plays a pivotal role in helping students develop competencies such as critical thinking, managing information, problem-solving, creativity, innovation, communication, cultural and global citizenship, collaboration, and personal growth. These skills not only enhance academic learning but also prepare students to thrive in an ever-changing world.
Thank you for your continued support of the arts and for encouraging our students to dream big. I look forward to celebrating more outstanding performances in the weeks and months to come.
Enjoy your weekend,
Anne Kromm Principal
