Dear Parents, Guardians, Caregivers, and Students

This week a number of students, staff, and administration are away on the PVA Trip to New York, providing some of us a chance to try out new roles and responsibilities.

I have been given the opportunity to step into an Acting Assistant Principal role. As part of these duties Ms. Kromm asked me to write this week’s Ram Reminder. I am certain the look of horror on my face mirrored that of my students when I reminded them their unit exam is tomorrow. Just like any great educator, Ms. Kromm calmed my anxiety and suggested I write about our school’s Knowledge & Employability Program. The K&E program is very special to me and I relish the chance to share it with you.

The Knowledge & Employability Program is designed for students who need additional supports to develop literacy & numeracy skills. It is a way for students to achieve success and engagement in academics as they explore their interests through their option courses. Those students and parents that embrace the program will experience success as the curriculum and activities are tailored to their individual learning needs in a supportive learning environment. Central Memorial offers a variety of K&E core and option courses. We have passionate K&E teachers that are skilled in designing tasks for students who learn best through experiences that integrate essential employability skills in occupational contexts. Students taking K&E courses may qualify for a certificate of High School Achievement or they may continue their studies to qualify for an Alberta High School Diploma.

I am privileged to work with the dedicated teachers at Central Memorial who support our students in pursuing their educational career goals. Each department's commitment and passion for education is truly inspiring. The staff at Central not only deliver the essential Outcomes and Skills, but they also provide invaluable guidance, encouragement, and mentorship that help all students grow both academically and personally.

Thank you for the opportunity to step out of the classroom and be part of the administration team.

Sincerely,

Kim Hennebury Social Studies Teacher
