Good Evening Parents, Caregivers, Students and Guardians,

As we move into the final weeks of the school year, I want to take a moment to recognize our incredible Grade 12 students. From the first day of semester one to now, they have consistently risen to and surpassed all expectations. Their leadership, dedication, and enthusiasm have helped shape an outstanding school year. As they now turn their focus to final and diploma exams, we wish them confidence, clarity, and a sense of pride in all they’ve accomplished. The mission of our school has always been to foster success for all students, and this graduating class has truly embodied that vision.

June also marks a significant observance across our country—National Indigenous History Month. This is a time for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the rich history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples. On June 21, we will observe National Indigenous Peoples Day, a moment to honour the unique traditions, knowledge, and contributions of Indigenous communities from coast to coast to coast.

At Central Memorial High School, we are committed to supporting reconciliation and upholding the rights of Indigenous peoples. We recognize the importance of building respectful, reciprocal partnerships and creating a better future for all Canadians. As educators, we understand our role in promoting and protecting Indigenous knowledge, languages, and heritage. This commitment calls us to listen deeply, share openly, and take meaningful action to address the harms of racism, the legacy of colonialism, and the ongoing impacts on Indigenous children, communities, and the land itself.

Our goal is to cultivate an ethical space at CMHS, a space for reflection, dialogue, and learning, where every voice is heard and valued. I am very fortunate to have an Indigenous nephew who has taught me so much through his own lived experience and as he says, in Cree, "Tawow!" which is a reminder to all of us: "There is room here for everyone." May we continue to grow together in understanding, respect, and shared purpose.

With gratitude,

Anne Kromm Principal
