Good Evening Parents, Caregivers, Students and Guardians
As we wrap up another incredible school year, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our students, families, and staff for your dedication, partnership, and unwavering support. Together, we have created a learning environment where all students are encouraged to grow, stretch, and thrive, and we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of you.
On Wednesday, our Learning Leaders gathered for a retreat centered on the theme: “Looking Back to Move Forward.” We spent the day intentionally reflecting on the last year behind us while looking ahead with a focus on well-being, assessment, student supports, and Truth and ReconciliACTION with purpose and intent to guide our planning. Transitions offer us a powerful opportunity for a fresh start. And through careful reflection, we are better equipped to set meaningful goals and build upon the progress we have made.
Our data this year revealed areas for growth in literacy, vocabulary, reading comprehension, and reading endurance. Over the summer, we encourage families to help nurture these skills: get your kids off their screens and put a good book in their hands! Small daily habits can have a big impact. I personally love reading and already have a stack of books that I can't wait to crack open. Since the start of last summer, I have read fifty books. It will be interesting to see how many I get read by the end of next school year.
Our teachers this year have deepened their work around assessment and reporting by outcomes, which provided students with clear, constructive feedback on their strengths and areas for growth. Within classrooms, our focus on Tier 1 Supports has remained a priority, ensuring every student has access to
high-quality instruction, responsive strategies, and emotional support. We are also working toward building a clearly Established Continuum of Supports, outlining what practices are already consistent across our school, and what we hope to implement more broadly in the future.
Our use of the Collaborative Response Model continues to be a key strategy in addressing the increasing complexity of classroom needs. Each Learning Leader will help lead this work in their department by asking: What Tier 1 strategies can we adopt consistently across our team to meet the emerging needs of our students? Supporting resilience, emotional regulation, and academic confidence will continue to guide our efforts.
We also reinforced the importance of Professional Learning Communities (PLCs). The driving question in a PLC is this: How can we ensure that all students, not just some, learn at high levels? It’s not about students who are always ready or motivated; it is about creating a system that meets all learners where they are and helps them move forward.
As this school year comes to a close, let’s remember while our time in the classroom may be over, the relationships we have built with students don’t end. Our warmth, encouragement, and belief in them carries forward leaving a lasting imprint.
Wishing everyone a joyful, restful summer. We can’t wait to welcome you back after the Labour Day long weekend in September.
