Message to Parents and Guardians

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As many of you know, one of the biggest video game releases in history is approaching, and we recognize that many students are excited.

While gaming can be an enjoyable part of students' social lives, we want to remind families that school attendance, academic responsibilities, and healthy sleep habits must remain priorities.

Our goal is to help students enjoy their interests while maintaining a healthy balance and making responsible choices.

School Attendance Still Matters

We anticipate that the excitement surrounding this release may lead some students to stay up late gaming, arrive at school tired, or even ask to stay home to play.

We strongly encourage families to reinforce the importance of attending school regularly and arriving on time.

Missing school for video games means missing valuable opportunities, including:

  • Classroom instruction and learning activities.
  • Meaningful classroom discussions.
  • Collaborative activities and group work.
  • Opportunities to connect with peers.

Regular attendance is essential to student learning, engagement, and academic success.

The Importance of Healthy Sleep

Adequate sleep is essential to student success.

Staying up late gaming can negatively affect students' ability to function academically, socially, and emotionally.

Sleep plays an important role in several key areas:

Area

Benefits of Healthy Sleep

Learning and Memory

Helps the brain process and retain information.

Focus and Concentration

Improves attention, participation, and productivity.

Emotional Well-Being

Supports emotional regulation and can reduce irritability, frustration, and anxiety.

Physical Health

Supports growth, immunity, and overall well-being.

Decision-Making

Helps students make thoughtful choices and manage challenges.

When students consistently sacrifice sleep for gaming, we may see:

  • Increased fatigue.
  • Reduced classroom engagement.
  • Difficulty concentrating.
  • Decreased motivation.
  • Increased conflict.

Maintaining healthy sleep routines helps students arrive at school ready to learn, participate, and succeed.

A Final Thought | Balance, Boundaries, and Responsibility

We are not asking families to eliminate video games or take away the excitement of a major release.

We simply ask that you help your children understand the importance of balance, boundaries, and responsibility.

As parents and educators, we share the responsibility of helping students develop the discipline and accountability needed for success.

Please help us reinforce three important messages:

Gaming is a privilege. School is a priority. Sleep is essential.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support.

Together, we can help students enjoy their interests while making choices that support their success.

Please refer to pages 5 and 6 of the original newsletter for helpful tips on establishing healthy gaming boundaries, along with information about why video games can be so engaging and difficult to step away from.

Kind regards,
