Good Evening CMHS Parents, Caregivers, Students and Guardians,

As we prepare to leave the building today, not knowing exactly when we will return due to the province-wide strike beginning Monday, October 6, I want to pause and speak directly from the heart.

Our teachers truly care about the well-being of their students. This has always been at the core of our work, and it continues to guide us during this uncertain time. Some of us have lived through strikes before, whether as a child, a parent, or a teacher. I still remember being a student in Calgary when my teachers went on strike as I transitioned from grade 6 to grade 7. Later, as a teacher myself, I experienced a three-day strike in 1998. What makes this moment different is its historic nature: for the first time, teachers across the entire province are united together.

I know you are already aware of the many reasons for this action, so I won’t revisit them here. Instead, I want to share how deeply moved I have been by the support from our school community. Over the past few days, parents have sent thoughtful emails, left notes, and stopped to share words of encouragement at school events. These gestures mean more than you know, they reaffirm that so many Albertans understand the importance of strong public education and the truth that a strong system builds a strong society.

At the centre of all of this, never forget, are the students. Their growth, development, and future remain our top priority. As the CBE strongly expresses in their values:

  • Students come first
  • Learning is our central purpose
  • Public education serves the common good

Today, we wrapped up the Terry Fox Run, and it was such a joy to spend time with students in a more relaxed, unstructured way. It reminded me again how special each of them is, and how deeply we look forward to being back with them as soon as possible.

Thank you for your ongoing support and trust. Take care, and we will see you soon.

Warmly,

Anne Kromm

Principal
