Good Evening CMHS Parents, Caregivers, Students and Guardians

This week, we are excited to share some wonderful news about the work being done across the Calgary Board of Education to support Career Skills and Trades. Under the leadership of our Chief Superintendent, Jo Pitman, and in partnership with the Calgary Construction Association, the Adopt-a-Shop initiative has taken root. Many of the programs offered here at Central Memorial have been selected to be part of this initiative, and we are beginning to see the generous individuals, groups, and organizations who have chosen to partner with us.

We are proud to announce that our Pre-Engineering and Design Thinking program has been adopted by Chris Lenstra, representing the Hellen Hydrangea Foundation. This adoption honours the legacy of Chris’s mother, Anna Lenstra, whose lifelong commitment to education and innovation continues to inspire.

In addition, The Cedar Shop, represented by Cody Orr, has adopted our Construction & Building Trades program. The Cedar Shop’s connection to our community and commitment to skilled trades makes it a wonderful fit for our students at Central Memorial.

Partnerships like these not only create opportunities for students to gain hands-on skills, but also remind us that success in any career requires more than technical knowledge. Whether in engineering, trades, or any profession, resilience is just as essential as skill.

Author Hannah Beach puts it beautifully:

“Children don’t need us to rush them through their feelings. They need space to stay with what they’re feeling. We don’t have to fix it. In fact, our willingness to simply acknowledge, ‘Yes, that is hard,’ is what helps feelings soften and resilience grow.”

Thank you, parents and guardians, for the role you play in helping your children develop this vital quality. By being present, by holding space, and by making it okay for them to feel what they feel, you are equipping them with the resilience they will need not only in school, but also in their future careers and lives.

Have a great weekend. Anne Kromm
